Product description

The curvimeter is a map knife or measuring device that is used to measure distance using maps. The prototype, developed by R. Wittmann in 1875, is able to read distances on the map material, taking the respective scale into account. The eponymous feature of being able to precisely measure even winding roads and paths is used specifically by cyclists, hikers and mountaineers. This essential tool belongs in every survival kit and is a useful aid when it comes to correctly allocating one's strength.

The MINT curvimeter kit, carefully put together by the brand manufacturer UGEARS®, consists of a total of 109 wooden parts that come from sustainable forestry. The environmentally conscious training object is rather an ideal learning aid to make mechanical processes and functions visible. The artistic still life is based on the retro-futuristic style and skillfully implements this in its 3D puzzle. This comes from the forge of the STEM-Lab laboratory and its inner workings refer to the cycloid drive and the planetary mechanism . In this context, the present mechanism is to be considered much older, since according to some sources Chinese and Roman scholars were already in the 23rd century BC. BC were familiar with this drive technology. With the help of a special AR APP, the UGEARS® models can be technically reproduced . The artistic still life has been provided with a QR code , which offers an interesting insight into how the measuring device works. Measuring the world is therefore the motto when it comes to understanding a map knife down to the smallest detail.
